Outdoor Survival Methods for You

You may be likely to spend lots of time taking camping and backpacking trips if you are a person who likes to be in the outdoors. This is a good thing, nevertheless, you will certainly need to create a particular set of outdoor survival tips to ensure that you can have a safe time if you are in the wild.

Firstly, you need to ensure that you always let another person know where you are going, how long you’re planning to be gone, and whatever they must do if they do not hear from you. When people fail to tell anyone where they’re going, this is often a sometimes fatal mistake. You might be struggling to get to somewhere where you can get help if you get injured. Getting help could possibly be easier if someone knows your location.

One other good tip to remember is to also have a compass and to learn the optimal way to work with one. Along those same lines, it is recommended to bring a guide with you and discover the various landmarks. Both of these things will encourage you to always have a concept of where you are, and this way, you’ll not get lost. In the event that you have to find your way back to civilization, you’ll be able to.

Next, it is always a good idea to be aware of the area where you are going. You should undoubtedly understand the potential dangers and hazards. What sort of animals will be out there? You want to ensure you thoroughly plan out your backpacking or camping trips and make clever decisions.

If things get really hard, there are several things that you need to know in order to stay safe and survive. To start with, you need to avoid stagnant water. If you are trying to find drinking water, try to find water that is moving. Treating water with iodine or boiling the water is always wise if you can. Should you get in really dire straits, urine may be drank only once or twice before it really becomes toxic. Unless you are able to identify the plant and know that it is safe, you need to avoid eating plants. It will be safe to eat meat from the majority of mammals.

If you are thinking about outdoor survival skills, these are a few helpful things to know. However, once you know exactly where you are going as well as what you will be doing and plan out your hiking or camping trip totally beforehand, you unquestionably should not have to turn to these things.

Learning outdoor survival tips is a good thing to do in the event you ever discover youself to be in that type of circumstance. Outdoor survival skills are a fantastic skill to possess.

Wilderness First Aid Training

A substantial part of First Aid training can be applied to a wide spread of circumstances, but there are also particular situations where specialist information is necessary. This is fairly straightforward to understand, because a bump or a scrape can happen under any circumstances, but phenol poisoning would almost certainly only happen in an industrial mishap.

There is not much purpose in learning how to help victims of certain accidents if you are highly unlikely to ever be able to apply that knowledge. However, you ought to take advantage of each free or subsidized specialist course that you are offered at work. The same can be said for any pastime that you have, although you will probably have to stump up for the course yourself.

In this situation, I am thinking of swimmers, yachters, campers, hikers and people involved in sports or pastimes of that nature. After all, there is less point in knowing how to save a drowning person if your hobby is hiking or mountaineering. Knowing First Aid pointers in the wilderness is very helpful, but they are more likely to include, stroke, heart attack, broken bones and unconsciousness.

You are in essence on your own when you are in the outback or on a mountainside. If you are with a partner, all well and good, you are safer, but there is also two times the chance of an accident. However, there are more common reasons for concern than actual physical accidents.

Some of the far more common accidents that occur while you are wandering in some wilderness or other are exhaustion, dehydration and insect bites. If you are hiking in the winter or above the snow line, then there is also frostbite and hypothermia to consider.

In general, there are also snake bites and bites from big animals to consider. Broken bones due to a fall are fairly common, so if you are planning a trek into the wilderness, you actually do have to be ready, because, if your phone is receiving a signal and the battery is charged, it could still take hours for help to get to you.

If you have a fondness for wandering in the wilderness, the first thing to do is not go on your own. Make sure that you go with someone who has more experience than yourself until you can honestly say that you are proficient to lead someone else into a very perilous area where help is hours away by helicopter.

If you have studied how to go into the wilderness by partnering someone else, you ought to be OK. Another way of learning is to join the Scouts. Learning in this way will give you plenty of time to pick up pointers on how to handle exceptional conditions.

Do not make believe that you are competent to lead someone else if you do not have the skill. Being stuck tens of miles from anywhere in the dark with a fractured leg and no idea what to do is not going to impress anyone.

Learn how to reduce your stress by other means than smoking and drinking and perhaps you will not fall victim to stress and heart disease.

Financial stress is one the most common factors of stress and is also one of the most problematic to treat. The reason why financial stress is a problem to beat is that if you really care about your financial situation, you are probably already doing everything that you can.

If you are already doing all you can to alleviate your financial situation and you are still experiencing financial stress, then you will feel ensnared.

Office stress can build up very easily, but the causes are varied. Office stress can begin because you are worried about you career or because you think that you are an outsider. A stress headache is a very real occurrence. In fact, it is thought that the majority of headaches are stress related. it is not for nothing, that |when people feel that they are losing it, that their hands go to their head.

Pain can be a result and this is probably a stress headache. Frequently a stress headache will begin with tension in the neck and shoulders and will mutate into pain in the temples, behind the eyes – this is a true stress headache.

The indications of stress take numerous forms and sometimes the reason for the stress dictates the indications of stress that the sufferer will experience. For instance. If the cause of the stress was an attack, then some of the indications of stress might be flashbacks and nightmares.

Soft Coolers Keep Everything Nice And Cool

The best way to keep food and drink and chilled when temperatures are soaring outside is through the use of an ice cooler. Soft coolers are really convenient because they are easy to tote around. You can bring them on a picnic, on a kayaking trip or when you go for a run. They can be used to store drinks, food and snacks. Great snacks that will easily fit in a cooler include; sliced fruit, popsicles, frozen bits of fruits, and even salads.

Richard C. Laramy invented the first cooler box aka the ice box. Most coolers are usually made out of plastic and can also be used to keep groceries cold on the way home; quite useful if the drive is a long one. Coolers are filled with ice which works to keep the contents chilled.

Some coolers are big and require two people to carry them while others are small and can even be worn as a backpack. Different colors are available; some come in a plain color like black or white while others are decorated with a bright hue and fun patterns.

It’s rather inconvenient if the cooler leaks resulting in a big spill. The best coolers are those that are waterproof and don’t leak. If you’re going to be real active such as kayaking or hiking in the wild outdoors you will want one that is extra durable and also portable. Look for one that is easy to tote around; you don’t want one that weighs a ton,

The amount of ice used affects how long everything will remain nicely chilled. If you want to keep it cold it’s best to open it as little as possible. If it is opened frequently it will get warm sooner and if it is rarely opened it will retain the cold temperature for a longer duration of time.

If there is a shade available place the cooler there. That will make it stay cool longer than exposing it to the sun. Coolers aren’t just for drinks; they can also used to bring food. If you decide to bring food it’s best to bring two different coolers and mark them so you know which one is which.

How To Find Affordable Camping Gear

Camping is a very popular activity among the under Forties. People like to go hunting, fishing, hiking, walking or just camping with their friends, family or lover. The outdoors is attractive and can be romantic. Lots of people want to get a little closer to nature and the easiest way of doing this is sleeping under canvas, or nylon or something man-made like that. Another benefit for the young is that it is inexpensive.

However, it is not only inexpensive, it is healthy and instructive. All children should go camping either with their parents or the scouts in order to learn something of nature before they get locked into a career to pay the mortgage and forget that there is life outside the city. You know, there are inner city children that do not know that milk comes from cows? How ridiculous is that?

So, if you are going to take an education in nature by the horns, you will have to have some camping equipment. Inexpensive though camping gear is relative to the gear required for other activities, most people still have to be a bit cautious how much they spend.

If you fall into that category, then this article is for you. Before we get into the nitty-gritty, it is worth pointing out that if you have the money, you can do worse than simply going down to the local sports shop or camping shop and buying all your equipment from them. Buy everything you require in one go and ask for a discount. if anything ever goes wrong they will remember you as a big spender and fix it for you right away.

However, the remainder of have to be a bit more careful with the cheque book. If you know a bit concerning camping equipment from your parents or from the scouts and do not mind second-hand, then car boot sales and garage sales can be just the ticket.

Frequently people are selling stuff because their kids have left home and they are having a clear out or perhaps they have had more children and the pup tent is no longer any use to them.

I sold a nice tent not so long ago for peanuts because I knew that I would never need it again. The beauty of these sales is that you can put the tent up or get the vendor to put it up for a closer inspection. Look for rot, sniff for mildew, check the number of pegs and guide lines et cetera, but do not get carried away with perfection, you can buy extra pegs, lanyard and a mallet, but you do not want to have to sew up holes or replace zips or fly screen.

Classified ads are another decent source of gear, but pick the device up yourself so that you know where to take it back if you do not have the chance to inspect it properly before handing over the money.

EBay and Amazon are also pretty decent, but you have to do some research on the manufacturers’ names and the normal retail prices otherwise you may end up purchasing a costly copy, a kiddies’ toy tent or just junk.

One of my favourite stores to browse is the Army and Navy Surplus store. Try going into an A&N and coming out empty-handed. If the equipment in there is good enough for our troops to risk their lives with, it’s decent enough for a week in the Poconos.

How To Look Like A Million Bucks When You Go Camping

Camping is a fun experience all around; what’s not to love about enjoying the great outdoors and roasting marsh mellows around the campfire? However, it does bring up the all-important question “How do you look pretty when on a camping trip? Camping can be rough since you might not have access to a blow dryer or running water. No need to fret, we tell you exactly how to look fabulously even when roughing it outdoors!

Who says you have to abolish the use of cosmetics just because you’re camping?! If you are comfortable wearing cosmetics there’s absolutely nothing wrong with bringing some along with you. I would suggest bringing along a light foundation, lip gloss, an eyelash curler, waterproof mascara, moisturizer, eye shadows, eyebrow powder or pencil, blush, pretty much whatever you use on a daily basis. Don’t forget to bring chap stick too in case your lips get dried out from the cold. Pack a long a good unscented moisturizer since smells might attract animals.

Don’t listen to the folks who say you should go completely “au naturel” when going camping. If you are comfortable wearing cosmetics there’s absolutely nothing wrong with bringing some along as long as you don’t overdo it. It’s perfectly fine to bring along a light foundation, lip gloss, an eyelash curler, waterproof mascara, moisturizer, eye shadows, eyebrow powder or pencil, blush, chap stick, pretty much whatever you use on a daily basis etc. Don’t forget to bring along makeup remover cloths in order to remove your makeup at night; this is an excellent way of cleaning your face at night. Don’t bring perfumes or overly scented products as these can attract animal wild life. Bring along a very rich moisturizer in order to keep your skin soft,

It’s possible to keep your hair looking and smelling fresh thanks to an invention called “dry shampoo”. Just bring along a container of “dry shampoo” with you; one that I recommend is Oscar Blandi. You use it by pouring some on the roots of your hair and the powder absorbs all grease and odors instantly.

You can dress comfortable while still being cute. You can even wear sweatpants or lounge pants that are bright and colorful. Dress and layers in case it gets hot or really cold.

Don’t forget to bring along the real essentials too such as plenty of food and water, insect repellent, a flashlight and a cooler bag in order to keep your drinks and snacks chilled. Camping should be a great time all around. With these tips you’ll be the belle of the ball at your next camping trip!

Hiking And Camping: A Growing Trend Again

Are you interested in getting closer to nature? Do you like hiking and sleeping under the stars – or under canvas at least? If you do, then a walking or hiking and camping holiday may be just the thing for you. A hiking and camping holiday will get you out in the fresh air, allow you to observe nature first hand and cost you very little to boot. In short, hiking and camping are the perfect blend, if you are looking for a healthy, inexpensive break outdoors.

Not only that but you can either go alone with a few good books, take a lover, take a friend or take the family with you. All in all, you have many options available to you if you want to trek off into the wild blue yonder on foot.

There are a couple of ways of tackling a vacation of this kind. You can either book into a hiking and camping site or you can literally just head off. If you have children with you then the camping site is a necessity, but otherwise the decision is yours, although it has to be borne in mind, that camping off site is or can be illegal. Trespass is definitely illegal as is causing a nuisance of yourself, putting wild animals under duress for no good reason, damaging trees or property and littering.

So, if you are a novice to hiking and camping, you would probably be better off going to a hiking and camping site or park. Do not be put off by this idea, some of them are truly enormous. Check out the Poconos and other national parks for example.

There is no doubt that price is a factor in the choice of a camping holiday for many young people, but it is hardly ever the sole reason why people like to get away and sleep under the stars. Going back to nature and bird- and animal-watching are other common reasons.

If you fancy this sort of holiday, it is worth bearing in mind that hiking and camping have become highly popular hobbies of late. They always were popular, it is true, but they waned in the Eighties and Nineties, and are seeing a resurgence now. Therefore, do your homework, think about where you would like to go, get some brochures or look on line and book up early. Yes, nowadays you have to book up early to get into the best hiking and camping parks again.

A final note of warning, if you decide to go off into the wilderness outside a park, let people know where you are. Take your mobile phone and a couple of fully-charged extra batteries and say when you are going to phone in that you are safe and make sure that you abide by it. It is very costly if Air-Sea Rescue get called out on unnecessarily.

I’m In Love With A Mule

I am reminded why living in California is so desirable now that the cold, rainy days of winter have been replaced by the pleasant temperatures of spring . The hillsides are cloaked in vibrant green grass and dotted with poppies. Our wide open beaches are remain too cold for water sport seeking tourists and belong to the locals. On the horizon stand our snow capped mountains that reflect the peachy-pink sunsets and velvet blue night skies. It truly is beautiful countryside.

My husband, kids and I have begun spending much of our weekends outside since all this beauty is just outside our door.. We have enjoyed spontaneous picnics in meadows flanking Ortega Highway and short hops to Big Bear to partake in snowball fights. There have been full and exhausting days spent peddling our beach cruisers back and forth on the boardwalk between the Huntington, Newport and Balboa Piers, followed by evening marshmallow roasts at the fire pits on the beach. Yes, life is good.

We pack an arsenal of belongings for each of these little journeys. No trip is complete without lip balm, munchies, juice boxes, cold water, Frisbees, a playing cards, blankets and beach towels.

My most beloved of all these little provisions is the Ice Mule. While shopping at a hunting/fishing outlet store, my husband picked up our Mule ( which is funny because he would never harm a fly). Thinking it might be of use one day, he brought it home. He was right.

We rarely leave home without it, our snacks and drinks stay cold for hours and hours.. Recently I realized that the Ice Mule had been left in our SUV overnight. Then I remembered that we had packed deviled eggs for our trip the day before. I expected to be consumed with nasty fumes as I removed the eggs from their Tupperware tomb. To my astonishment the eggs and the water bottles inside the Ice Mule were still nice and cold, even though they had been in the bag for over 24 hours!

The Ice Mule now accompanies me on trips to the grocery store. My Mule gets packed with all of the perishable items and I can continue running my errands before returning home. I truly love this thing!

Soon the lush green countryside will turn a drab shade of brown and the beaches will become a congested, noisy mecca for the tourist traffic. Traffic on Pacific Coast Highway will be reduced to a snail’s pace due to tourists looking for the closest parking spot to the beach (hint, these don’t exist in the summer).

You can bet that our Mule will be with us to keep our drinks, snacks, sunscreen and temperaments cool when we do feel brave enough battle the summer crowds. On the ultra hot 90 degree days, which we always see toward the end of summer, we will be sitting by the pool with our diet cola, Popsicles and iced tea. Allthough the kitchen will be only be a few steps away I intend to use the Ice Mule poolside. In fact I might not move from my lounge chair all summer long.

How To Find The Ideal Cooler

Everyone has some kind of cooler in their garage. You probably picked up something at the drug store or even the grocery store when you were on your way out and you needed to keep something cold. Some cars even come with built-in cooler compartments. Why is it, though, that when you want a cooler, you don’t seem to have the right kind on hand? I have one that’s a perfect size, but it doesn’t keep drinks cool for very long. Another one keeps things cold for a long time, but it’s huge, partially because its insulation is so think. I actually have two different coolers that are just right for a few drinks and a lunch, but they leak water if they tip over.

Companies have designed some really great coolers because people who hike and boat have asked for them. The good news is that you can get them too. Why not take what they’ve learned and put it to use for your own day to day needs? Here are some things you should look for to get a cooler that will work for you in every situation.

Probably the most important feature is the cooler’s ability to keep things cold for a long time, especially if it’s hot out. This is all about the insulation. In its simplest terms, thicker insulation keeps things cold longer. This is still true to some degree, but fortunately there have been many advancements in insulation. Manufacturers of cooler have newer more advanced types of insulation material available. One of the greatest advancements is better use of space. You can get a lot of insulation effectiveness with less mass than ever before. Some types of insulation are flexible, so some modern coolers can be rolled up or folded. You’re looking for a cooler that is lightweight and takes up as little space as possible, yet still has enough insulation to keep your things cold for a long time.

Next, think about how your items are going to be cooled. There are basically two options: dry cooling and ice. There are coolers available that offer something similar to refrigeration. The air inside is cooled without ice. Usually these require some kind of power, whether electric or battery. This is a good option for a stationary location with a consistent power supply, like a dorm room. Ice remains the most practical choice for a cooler that can be taken anywhere. It keeps things, especially drinks, ice cold. Ice is readily available and inexpensive almost anywhere you go. Snow or even cold water from a river can be used in a pinch. When the drinks are gone or the ice is melted, it can be dumped anywhere without a problem. The only down-side to ice is that it can make some of your items soggy as it melts. This is easily solved by putting your food in Ziploc bags in the cooler.

Of course ice can also leak if your cooler gets tipped over. This isn’t an ice problem. It’s a cooler problem. You need to find a new cooler if your old one isn’t watertight, even upside down. A cooler should seal everywhere to prevent water leakage and to prevent warm air from getting in and warming up your food and drinks.

In recent years, we’ve seen a lot of soft-sided coolers. These have the advantage of being able to take up less space when they’re less full. Even better, when they’re not in use, you can roll them up so they take very little storage space.

Durability is key too. Once you’ve found a cooler you like, you might as well keep it for a while. Be sure you select a well made product that is going to last through many excursions.

One bag cooler that meets all of these criteria is the Ice Mule. It was designed like a dry bag, so nothing, not even water, gets in or out once it’s sealed. Read more about the insulated backpack cooler.
