Starting A Web Business Is No Piece of Cake

There is no way to avoid those obnoxious internet ads claiming they alone have THE web business that anyone can do and make millions per week.

Are these people for real? First and foremost, what’s so one of a kind about it when they’re just pawning off a business that someone else pawned off on them for a nominal entry fee? Back-of-house marketing my patoot. All this is, is another attempt to help you spread around the money you made at your 9 to 5 job by offering you something that’s supposed to be so much better, but into which you will sink five times the amount of money and time you would have put into your J-O-B before throwing in the towel and going back to work so you can still make your mortgage payment.

It’s a Myth

The short form of the story is this: All those hawkers on the net who desire to convince you that they can make you an overnight millionaire are liars.

They may not be huge liars. They may be stretching the truth; spreading false hope, or fudging the truth a bit. Sure there will be testimonials aplenty by people who believed in them and actually did make some money. This boils down to a precious few of the suckers that never made a dime, and none of the people in the testimonials experienced overnight millions in their web business. If they were lucky, they broke even.

The Truth

Starting a web business is no different than starting a business in the real world. All business start-ups take courage, capital, tons of hard work and tenacity. You need to survey your market for the types of customers you need to target and make sure you tailor your business to fit their needs. This takes hours of work. Don’t even think you can start a business with part-time hours. You will be working hard 60-70 hours per week every week. You will be doing seemingly fruitless tasks because they must be done and you are the only one there to do them.

What they didn’t tell you is at some point you are going want to jump out the window, quit this nonsense and go back to work for the Man. You have no time for your family or friends. You have no social life. You haven’t had a good night’s sleep in months. As a matter of fact, you have no life at all.

Believe me. All those who have attempted a business start-up have been through this. A web business is not like opening up a pie shop on Main street in a small town. On the web, you are in competition with millions of other businesses catering to the masses from every corner of the planet. You will be scrambling to drive traffic to your web business – traffic that will buy your wares and return again and again. Customers that will spread your business name by word of mouth so others will jump on the bandwagon. There will be times when few even visit your site, let alone take advantage of what you have to offer. Then there are the times when an explosion of customer traffic occurs and you will be working 70 hour weeks to stay on top and probably slide off a bit.

When you start up your business on the web you are competing with thousands of businesses from every corner of the planet. You will be knocking yourself out to find ways to bring in customer traffic. There will be months when you don’t make enough money to buy groceries. On the other hand, there will be times when you are so busy and working such long hours that you don’t have time to eat anyway. Many tasks will simply not get done.

If the answer is yes, good for you. Time to set up that website and get crackin’. Um…why are you still here?

Indirectly guiding your readers to review information about a product through an article is the mark of a caring writer. Offering valued information in a quiet way regarding a product or service gives your followers value with out appearing as being too pushy.

When you softly suggest a specific product for your audience, they’re going to determine that your intention is not about hardcore promoting and you will develop strong long term reader relationships.

The likelihood of increased sales will grow dramatically as your readers begin to join with you and look forward to your posts. Always offer them something of value for free!

What You Can Do to Stop Online Business Taking Over Your Life

Running an online business can, at first, seem a great plan. You don’t even have to leave the house to start work, and you’re not desperately trying to schedule work meetings around all the other things you’re trying to do during the day – getting dinner on the table, changing the baby’s diaper, putting the baby down for a nap, or even spending the odd spare hour or so with the person that you married. Work can be done in your own time, and at a pace that is comfortable for you. You have the advantages that being your own boss brings, without the associated responsibilities.

Then reality bites. An online business, like any business, still needs to be managed. Before you know it, you’ll find yourself working into the early hours, cancelling get-togethers with your friends, checking Twitter on your mobile during your child’s school play, and logging on to your laptop on vacation. Everything will be focused on meeting deadlines, and you’ll be left lamenting your loss of freedom.

You’ll soon begin to understand that managing a business is a continuous call on your time. Running an online business from home is possibly even more demanding than running a conventional business from an office. It’s not possible to escape work when you’re at home – you’ll be thinking about it at all times of the day, even when you’re trying to fit in your usual household chores, or spend time with your family.

When it comes down to it, running your business online can sap your energy as much as a regular business can. In fact, burnout could hit you even faster, as you don’t get a break, or chance to leave the office behind you at the end of the day. However, the advantages of not being trapped in a nine-to-five lifestyle may still be attractive to you. You may also want to keep your regular client and customer base. So, how do you make it work?

Establish set work and calling hours for your clientele.

Sure, flexibility is one of the things we appreciate most about working on the web. Believe it or not though, setting up a stable work schedule and sticking to it is the best thing you can do to keep the business you’re running from running you over. When you know when you have to work, you know when you get to have a life.

Establish a work schedule that suits your situation. This will probably mean setting a schedule of around eight hours a day; don’t make it more than ten hours. Once you’ve got your schedule in place, unless a genuine emergency arises, keep to it. When you’ve completed your scheduled hours for the day, pack everything away, and don’t come back to it until the next day. This strategy can help you to better manage your work and home time, and avoid reaching the crisis point of wanting to give the business up.

Focus your ‘to-do’ list on the ‘must-do-today’ items.

When you’re running a business, your daily to-do list is endless, and can quickly get out of control. Each day, start your work with a list that only contains the essential tasks to get done by the end of that day. Let’s face it, there’s always going to be more work to be done. At least this way, when you finish work for the day, you can be assured that the fundamental jobs have been dealt with.

Buy a cell phone with no access to the Internet.

This is an iffy one for most business owners, so I advise you to approach this particular piece of advice with caution. I personally couldn’t survive without being able to check my email on the road, but it does mean that I spend the entire day plugged into work. If you find you’re having trouble separating your work life from your home life and you need to get some distance, go out and pick up a phone that does nothing but make phone calls. You’ll thank yourself for it in the end.

If you want to stay sane and stop your online business from taking over your life, the solution is to compartmentalize your work and home life as much as possible. What are your best ideas for ensuring that online working doesn’t drive you nuts?

Do You Think Of Yourself As A Business Owner Or An Entrepreneur?

We live in the age of the entrepreneur. That’s not a bad sales pitch. As layoffs are slowly nudging shoppers back to mom and pop shops, and more individuals than ever are stretching their wings and setting out on their own, entrepreneurs are doing a booming business.

Entrepreneurship is the new black, ladies and gentlemen. Write it down.

An article written by Erika Napoletano at Redhead Writing brought up a good question. The question she asked was whether her reading audience was business owners or entrepreneurs. There really is a distinction between the two and it is an interesting one.

Are you in fact an entrepreneur, or are you a business owner?

Um…what’s the difference?

I’ll bet you don’t know and/or haven’t given it much thought. You would be with the majority of people on that one.

So what is the difference between an entrepreneur and a business owner? A business owner is one who owns a business. It may be one that they themselves have started. It may be one that they’ve purchased from someone else. It may be that they’re third or fourth generation. It doesn’t matter. The point is, they run their business and they run it well.

Running a business, however, does not by definition make you an entrepreneur. Starting a business does. If that business happens to be a bold new step in the right direction, well, that’s all the better, isn’t it? Eh…more or less.

If you’re thinking the entrepreneurial life is for you, I’ve got a few questions to toss your way.

1. Are you deathly afraid you’ll mess up? Being an entrepreneur all alone in your business life can be a frightening concept. The truth is you will err. You will err seriously. Chances are very good you will fall hard and will need to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again, as the song goes. If this is abhorrent to you, do not become an entrepreneur.

2. Do you have a problem telling people what to do? You’d be amazed at how much harder it is to take the reins than it is to let someone else deal with the hard stuff. If you’re a pushover who thinks they want to be an entrepreneur, you need to get over it. Seriously.

3. Can you think on your feet? If you can’t think and make quick, reasoned decisions, do not become an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs face head on a whole new world of obstacles they never even thought of before. Many of these obstacles require a decision to be made in 30 seconds or less. If you are unable to think on the fly, do not become an entrepreneur.

4. Are you too chicken to tell people what you’re about to do? Entrepreneurs have been called nutcases since the beginning of time. If you have an idea someone else hasn’t thought of yet, there’s obviously something wrong with you. Right? Well, that was kind of a given. But there’s going to be a lot of that in your future. Learn to look ‘em in the eye, and not to let it get to you.

Now you know what it takes to be an entrepreneur and how it differs from being a business owner. If you think entrepreneurship will work for you, go for it big time and good luck to you.

Is it true you can make Big Money with Project Payday?

Well here’s the lowdown on Project Payday:

This is how it functions. You sign up to receive a sample of something ; shall we say it is an acne cure. This product has a retail price of $50, but all you have to pay is five bucks post and packing. What you do is send your receipt in, and you theoretically get paid $20 for your effort and time, because you have got to take some time to cancel the automatic monthly shipment of acne remedy which you may not have realized is going to get charged to your Visa card monthly.

Great deal uh? You pay five bucks and get back $20 so you made $15 profit. The affiliate that referred you also makes a nice little check because the acne remedy company paid them a good commission to obtain a new sale. Appears like a great situation. Or are you scratching your head?

Is Project Payday a Honest Way to Earn a Couple Of bucks?

Project Payday is a system that is meant to teach people the easiest way to earn royalties promoting “cost per action” offers, but unfortunately these techniques are highly questionable, like the example above.

Are you familiar with CPA offers? These regularly start with a trial offer, maybe offering something for which you only have to pay postage and packaging, the hope being the company will get extra sales and payments later on.

All those garish banners that you see online offering you iPods for a penny, free cash or computers if you simply fill-in the form or finish a survey, are all a part of this cost per action incentivized scheme. These incentivized freebie web sites as they’re called, are all part of the same selling model as Project Payday falls under.

That’s not to say you will not receive your free iPod after filling in a survey or checking boxes next to other affiliate offers that you are probably not very interested in anyway, but listen to me there actually is a massive catch. This is simply a way for the company to capture your private information, and you may find that your acne remedy cream is being delivered each month and being billed to your Visa card before you realize it everyone knows there isn’t any such thing as free.

Of course there might be individuals that are really inquisitive about a certain service or product and of course that’s a different situation perhaps they really do need a once a month supply of acne cream! But this is an affiliate marketing scheme which basically bribes you into completing an offer and then tells you can cancel it right afterwards the company whose product it is, is getting cheated.

The company is losing money as it is paying the affiliate and you for doing something that’s basically dishonorable and devious. Consequently, the solution to any question about Project Payday will probably include the phrase” no it is not ethical.” But then if you haven’t any morals and are glad to collect commissions that way, then at last if enough folks do it the company will finally go broke and you’ll essentially be slaughtering the golden goose.

Suffice it to claim there are numerous folk making large incomes doing this part time by promoting these dubious CPA offers. The ones which make the big bucks are those who can promote an offer in such a fashion as to attract folk who may genuinely have an interest in trying the product. If you can master the science and art of marketing, you too could probably earn a respectable living doing this too.

The Good News And Bad News About Working From Home

Nobody’s going to deny that working from home is an amazing opportunity. No commute. Blend your work and family life without bringing it crumbling down around your ears. Etcetera, etcetera. What you might have missed however, is the fact that there are two sides to every story. If you’re stepping out into the wide, wonderful world of working from home believing that you’re stumbling into an unprecedented paradise, you’re sadly mistaken-and, if you’re not ready for it, could find yourself floundering before you’ve even had a chance to begin.

The Good Points

There is a major storm brewing outside my window and I am sitting in my union suit in front of the fire solving a client’s problem on my laptop. It just doesn’t get any better than that. I did not have to listen to the alarm go off this morning, rush through a cup of coffee, dress up in my dress-for-success clothes and head out into the storm for a possible two hour commute. I do not have to deal with annoying co-workers, bosses or tedious, sometimes downright embarrassing office politics.

Particularly if you have small children, working from home gives you a chance for a workable balance between your life and your work. You do not need to go into panic mode whenever one of the kids is sick or has a day off from school. You can make those doctor’s appointments and keep them for you and your kids without having to mumble something to your boss about taking a long lunch. Heck, you can take a whole day off and take the kids to the zoo and catch up later when the little darlings are in bed for the night. You also gain the personal reward of making a living and achieving something that makes you feel good about yourself.

The Bad

Working out of your home means just that – working. You are not a stay at home parent or a person on permanent vacation. Your time is not your own if you hope to be successful at what you do, whether at home or in an office.

You are doing this because you have to work to support you and your family.

Lots of people will turn a deaf ear to the fact that you “work” from home and will ask you to babysit during the day or some other chore, because after all you are home. Neighbors and friends drop in for morning coffee and want to chat until afternoon tea. You will be invited to play dates and luncheons and all sorts of events that take place during a work day. No one will believe you when you tell them you can’t make it because you work for a living.

You must get Caller ID for your telephone so you can avoid the socialites that wish to tie up your time and answer only the work related calls. Then, if the external distractions aren’t enough, there are always the internal ones.

Kids, dishes, laundry, housework, cats, dogs…you name it, it wants my attention during the day. It’s hard to block everything out and focus on what I need to do, which means working from home can leave me just as torn between my work and home responsibilities as I was when I was getting up and driving into the office every day.

The other internal bad guy is that laptop calling your name 24/7 to let you know about emails received, reports that could be edited for better comprehension and that potential client that could be cultivated RIGHT NOW. Working from home can be a seven day, 80 hour week just as much as the office job can be, and just like that office job, there will be some days where you just can’t win. So, working from home can be a wonderful way to earn a living. Just don’t go into it without realizing that as with everything else, there is a good side and a bad side.

Create Your Own Job Online

The world’s economic situation today is tough. People have no jobs now and their prospects look bleak for the future. The economy the world over is the deepest concern of people and governments alike. The unemployment rate in this country is growing bigger every day just as jobs are growing more scarce. Things will go down before they rise again, and that could be a very long time coming.

Companies everywhere are laying off workers and tapping the power of technology instead of manpower, or jobs are being shipped overseas to find the cheapest labor available which is usually in some country in Asia. Mega-corporations are taking advantage of the low standard of living in these countries to have their products assembled by low-wage workers.

It is unbelievable that it costs less to ship thousands of pounds of materials clear across the globe, pay employees to assemble the product, turn around and ship them all the way back to America. The fact is that people in other countries are willing to work for low wages because the standard of living is low there and they welcome the chance at earning a living no matter how meager. Many Americans won’t work for less than a living wage, allowing companies to take advantage of the labor opportunities that exist overseas.

Maybe if the large American corporations had their products assembled in this country and we only bought domestically produced goods, the economy here wouldn’t be suffering so much. This is all fine speculation but Americans still need to make money to survive. With millions out of work, this is no small thing as there are hundreds lining up for only one job opportunity and those open slots are few and far between.

Now we can finally take matters into our own hands. We don’t have to be at the mercy of big corporations anymore. Any of us can now create our own successful online business. This way we can be our own boss and we can know that we will never get laid off. With the right software and help starting your own successful online business is simple. We can work whatever hours we want and still be able to pay the bills.

You have a far better shot at earning a livelihood with your own business than you do in waiting to find a job with a living wage in this economy. Open positions are rare and hundreds are vying for that one rare slot. The answer is to go into business for yourself online. More and more people are using the internet to shop for goods and services, as well as for entertainment and education. These numbers will only go up. Think of the millions of potential customers for your online business, whatever it is.

Our economy has not been so bearish since the great depression of the 1930’s. While things today aren’t quite as bad as those days, times are certainly difficult. Those people that are not unemployed are drastically underemployed, hardly able to support themselves, let alone a family. If this describes your situation, or you are one of the lucky ones to have a job, but hate it and hate your boss, starting your own online business may be the motivation you need to kiss your boss goodbye, pick up your spirits and fatten your bank account.

Be a Stay at Home Mom and Get Paid

As mothers nothing makes us happier than to hold our newborn baby in our arms. We have spent nine long months carrying them around with us wherever we go and excitedly awaiting their arrival. We take our prenatal vitamins and do our best to protect our big bellies from anything that might hurt our baby. When they finally decide to make their appearance, nothing brings us more joy than to snuggle our baby close. There’s no doubt about it that the nine long, hard months were totally worth it when look down into our newborn child’s face.

The next few weeks while wonderful and amazing, are also difficult. We thought that the need to get up and go to the bathroom every hour would have prepared us for waking up and feeding the baby in the middle of the night, but it only takes a couple of nights for us to realize we have hit a totally new level of tiredness. Eventually though we begin to find our stride.

About six weeks into an infant’s life, the routine of changing diapers, feeding and dancing him to sleep become just another part of the day’s events. We get in sync with our babies and things return to normal. At this point, our maternity leave is about over and it’s time to go back to work. No matter how much we would love to stay home with our new little guy, we also must pay for his care, the roof over his head and his medical bills, to name just a few expenses. Back to work we go.

What if we could find a way to earn money and be home with our children at the same time? We all know that there are people who work from home but we consider this an unattainable luxury and wouldn’t know where to start to find something like this.

If we knew how to start and run an online business from home most of us would probably have already done it. Many of us want the luxury of being able to work and be a stay at home mom, but don’t see that as a possibility. With today’s technology however, anyone can learn to start and run their own notice.

Being your own boss and having the flexibility to work the hours of your choice is ideal, particularly when it comes to being with your kids. When you are in charge you can choose when you work and never miss a kid’s birthday party or holiday. The ability to make money operating your own business gives you the freedom to be there for your kids when they need you.

With all the software and information accessible so easily, your own successful business can be created and managed and still enable you to be home with your youngsters. You will never again miss a ballet recital or baseball game.

Holding your newborn in your arms gives you the feeling that you never want to let them go. The day will come all too soon when we must, but until that day comes, we can manage to be with them every day. Today we can choose to work and be with our kids at the same time. It is a fact, in today’s economy, no one gets off without working, but working for yourself from the comfort of your home at least gives you the freedom to pay bills and still put your family first.

Freedom From The Office: Discovering How to Work at Home

The economy today is not like it used to be. People could always earn a little extra money playing the stock market. Some players were so blessed with good fortune that they could leave their jobs and make the Wall Street game their only means to a comfortable living. All they had to do was pick the right stocks. Anyone who has read the financial page lately will realize ’tis folly to even think about this any more.

It would be nice to return to the days of yesteryear, but that is not reality. The day to day grind at the office is pretty much the word these days to support yourself and your family. Children are costly, food is costly, housing is costly and none of it is going down in price.

Wouldn’t it be nice though not to have to answer to anyone else? We talk to our coworkers all the time about how nice it would be if we could be our own boss, or win the lottery. Well it’s highly unlikely that many of us will ever win the lottery, but with online business booming the way it is we could become our own boss.

People everywhere are now able to flee the office. Online business is rapidly expanding and anyone frustrated with the office routine and working endless hours away from the home front are beginning to take advantage of the boom. . Doing business on the internet is fast, convenient and simple. Think of the millions of people that are taking advantage of the net to shop, learn, and search for restaurants and countless other consumer goods and services online.

Creating your own online business may sound hard, but with the right software and help and it’s pretty easy. Developing a successful online business is simple once you know how to do it, and can bring in quite a bit of money given how fast internet shopping and business is booming. Now is the perfect time to start taking advantage of the growing desire of many Americans to conduct their business online.

Being your own boss sounds like a wonderful thing to many of us.
