There are a lot of tablets in the market and you can easily take your pick. A lot of features need to be considered and you need to be keen on them. The top manufacturers right now are Apple, Samsung, Asus, HP and Barnes & Noble.
While most tablet PCs have almost the same sized screen, it’s the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Asus Eee Pad Transformer that have the widest screen at 10.1″. The iPad 2 and HP Touchpad are smaller by a third of an inch at 9.7″ while the Barnes and Noble Nook Color have the smallest at 7 inches. Resolution wise, the Eee Pad and Galaxy Tab also top the list at 1280×800. Other features to consider are multi-touch capability and capacitive screens.
Never take processor speed for granted. The touchpad right now holds the fastest processor at 1.2 GHz dual core. Most tablets are at 1 GHz only with NVidia Tegra 2. These processors are dual cores so do not be fooled by generic tablets advertised at 1.2 GHz because these processors cold only be single cores. Its been rumored that in 2012, quad-core processors will be used, but that is a bit of an overkill.
There is not much to talk about battery life because most tablets have very little difference. If used a lot, a tablet may only last 3 to 4 hours. As for operating systems, most tablets use Android technology and the latest by far is Android 3.1. HP on the other hand uses webOS 3.0. Apple has its own with iOS 4.3 and B&N Nook Color uses Android 2.2 Froyo.
RAM is very important especially when it comes to multi-tasking. The Touchpad, Eee Pad and Galaxy Tab all have 1 GB of RAM while the iPad and Nook only uses 512 MB. You also need to take a look at connectivity, expansion, camera and weight. There are three aspects to connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G. A tablet with Wi-Fi and 3G assures you can connect anywhere.
A lot of hearsay is circulating that the iPad 3 release date is on January of 2012. Rumors say that the iPad 3 will have a retina display at 2048×1536 pixels and 264 PPI. Another rumored to be released by Apple is the iPad Mini to compete with low end tablets Amazon Kindle and B&N Nook.
