Notebooks Or Netbooks: Which Should I Buy?

Nowadays, life without a computer is unimaginable, particularly for undergraduates such as myself. Aside from semi-monthly case studies, my very demanding coursework entails having to do several write-ups everyday. Aside from typing these assignments, I also use my five year old laptop for researching online and emailing. While very useful, my 17-inch desktop replacement weighs around 3 kilos and as such can be quite cumbersome to bring along. For this reason, I searched for a system that has the functionalities I need but is less bulky.

The majority of the notebook computers, the dependable makes anyway, cost about seven hundred dollars. Since I am living independently, I didn’t want to purchase something too expensive. So I did a search online for budget laptops, and that was when I stumbled upon cheap netbooks. From what I read, notebooks and cheap netbooks are alike in that they are both portable computing devices. They are essentially dissimilar in terms of size and weight. Most laptops weigh around 2-3 kilograms, while netbooks weigh typically half of that. Notebooks boast of 15-18 inch monitors. Netbooks on the other hand sport screens that are usually 9-11 inches diagonally.

I already assumed that there would be some sort of a quid pro quo involved with the netbook’s unparalleled portability. Their processors are not as powerful and typically can’t run 3D games and video/photo editing programs. At the same time, netbook computers don’t have built-in DVD drives. I was willing to overlook these restrictions mainly because I only needed one that will allow me to connect to the World Wide Web, e-mail, and make documents, presentations, and spreadsheets.

There are quite a lot of cheap netbooks for sale on the Internet and offline. All netbooks are Wi-Fi ready, and have built-in Bluetooth connectivity and camera as well. They typically have at least 160GB of storage space and 1MB RAM, and are shipped with an operating system, Windows being the most common. Most cheap netbooks for sale today also come with an Intel Atom chipset.

I decided to buy from an online seller to take advantage of their reduced prices. I compared several netbook reviews prior to the purchase, and even went to the local mall to try some of them. At three hundred fifty dollars, my new feature-rich netbook computer was a very good purchase. Apart from being extremely lightweight, it is also very ogle-worthy.

If you’re looking for portability, cheap netbooks are king. While they are light-weight, they still pack a punch. Click here for reviews of the cheap netbooks for sale today.

A Kindle Reader Is A Top Selling Product On Amazon For Many Good Reasons

The Kindle reader rapidly rose to be the top selling item on Amazon. All it takes is a few minutes to review the benefits offered and it is apparent why that has happened. There are a tremendous number of books available for immediate download to the Kindle. You will also be able to read your personal PDF files and receive a large number of periodicals. You can use it almost anywhere in the US, and many other counties as well. There will be no other cables, a computer or software required. The reader will be ready to go right out of the box.

Some of the basic features provided include a large, 6″ diagonal “E Ink (a registered trademark) electronic paper display.” This technology uses ink just like is expected with books and newspapers. The ink is electronically displayed so it remains sharp and is not like reading from a computer screen. The text is adjustable with six font sizes.

You will not have the extra hassle of having to find large-print books any longer. All your books can be large print if that is what you want. Images will be bright and have clarity because of the sixteen shades of gray that are used. You can rotate them and enlarge them to full-screen when you want. With the additional ability to access text-based websites, you can keep up with sports scores, reference materials and maps. There is a dictionary built-in and opened instantly when needed.

The battery life will hold for up to two weeks if you turn off the wireless option. The life will be cut in half if left on. There is 2 GB of storage to work with. Since there is no back-lighting involved for the display, the text will work equally well whether in your home or on the beach. There is no glare from the screen.

It can be recharged with the included power adapter or the USB cable which can be plugged into a computer. This will also allow you to download reading material to your computer and transfer it to the Kindle. There are applications that will sync everything for your hand-held devices or personal computer so you can always pick up right where you left off.

There are over a half-million books available at the Kindle Store and downloaded in about sixty seconds. You are offered the option of downloading samples from any book at no cost and then purchase it with a single click. There are also over 50,000 audio books you can download to a computer and transfer. Many of the materials also have the ability to be read to you with text-to-speech capability.

The Kindle is designed for long-term use. It only weighs 10 ounces, yet holds up to 1,500 books. If you ever come to a point you need more room, all of your purchases are stored for you and can be re-downloaded. It is very thin, about the thickness of a lead pencil, so it can be held comfortably in one hand. Both sides of the screen have the buttons used to turn the pages.

A Kindle reader can play MP3 files so you choose background music to listen to as you read. You’ll always have any bookmarks or clips and notes you have saved available, no matter where you might be, or which device you are using at the time. Keeping up with the best-sellers and news will now be something you can take for granted when you have a Kindle in your hand.
