Mountain Biking Accessories

The same as all new hobbies, mountain biking can get fairly confusing for the novice, especially if you have never bought a bike before. However, when you have the bike you might want to buy some accessories in order to increase your biking experience. This is another minefield for the novice.

The first items to buy are those that will increase your safety, your comfort and your enjoyment. Not all the accessories are expensive and most of them are fairly obvious, but here is a list of the most essential accessories for the beginner mountain bike rider.

Crash Helmet: the biking crash helmet is not the same as a motorbike crash helmet, because the speeds concerned are not as high. However, a tumble at 15-20 MPH can still get quite significant and even fatal.

Most of the significant biking injuries are head injuries. The bikers’ crash helmet is the same as is worn by Olympic riders and competitors in the Tour de France, so they are up to the job. Do not fail to buy a helmet of good quality or you may just as well not bother.

Riding Gloves: no matter what weather you cycle in, gloves are practical. If the weather is hot, the gloves will absorb your perspiration and help you maintain a decent grip on the handlebars. If the weather is cold, they will protect you from the cold and keep some feeling in your fingers.

Not just that, but it is normal to put your hands out in case of a fall, so the hands are frequently scraped and fingers can get broken. Good mountain bike gloves will go a long way to safeguarding you from these frequent accidents.

Cycling Shorts: these are not absolutely crucial, but they will absorb perspiration and protect you if you come off your bike. It depends on the weather and how much you want to exercise yourself really. In colder weather, you may prefer to wear a track suit, whereas you could wear the shorts in the summer.

Cycling Shoes: these again are not absolutely vital, but cycling shoes are more comfortable for cyclists than general trainers. The grips on pedals may be quite rough, so you will need shoes with a harder sole than normal so that you do not feel the grip dig into you.

The toe part should be toughened as well, because cyclists often scrape the toes of their shoes whilst kicking off and crashing. You might want some ankle support too.

Eye Protection: if you are cycling at speed or on a narrow mountain trail, it can be disastrous to get a blinding flash or an insect in your eye. A flash of bright light off glass or a lake or a fly in the eye, can cause you to crash or come off the path and take a serious fall, which could be very serious if you are in a distant region.

Water Bottle: you will need to keep drinking water if you are exerting yourself. Stay hydrated so that you stay strong. You do not want to pass out or be forced to drink polluted river water.

Puncture Repair Kit: let’s face it, punctures happen and nuts wear loose, so it is important to have a repair kit and a few spanners so that you do not get caught out.

Mobile Phone: a mobile phone will get you out of trouble should the worst come to the worst.

Freestyle Scootering With The Razor Scooter Range

Ready to have a root-tooting good time? Do you enjoy freedom and speed? Well, Razor Scooter is flying in style and with fantastic colours. Today, numerous people use the Razor as a toy for the young, but some do use it for sport too. A lot of youngsters like to do stunts with the Razor. The Razor is for kids of all ages.

People of all ages are riding them everywhere. Back in 1999, the Razor Scooter appeared to the public and really became well-liked in 2000. It was developed by Micro Mobility System. At that time it was manufactured by JD Corporation.

Now the Razor is manufactured by Razor USA, which is out of Cerritos, California. While the market dropped out for scooters, Wim Ouboter, the owner, kept working to enhance the Razor.

The design of the razor is an aluminum frame and has a hinged fender covering the rear wheel. This is pressed down with the foot and acts as a spoon break. This adds additional control for the youngster. When a release latch is opened, the handlebars and headtube fold up.

This makes the Razor very handy for carrying and for storage. The Razor is very lightweight so it is easy to handle. Don?t let this worry you, as it is very hard-wearing.

The Razor comes in numerous colors and models. Some even have light up wheels. There are many models to choose from to fit your own requirements and comfort. Some of the colors available are red, black, pink, blue, and green.

Then if you are really into colors you can buy the ‘Hello Kitty’ or ‘Sweet Pea’. There are also electric Razors on the market for those that choose to go that way. The cost of Razors varies with the size and model that you buy. You can save some money by checking the Internet and finding a sale on one.

As with any product, there are safety guidelines that go with the Razor. It is sensible to wear the gear that is designed for people riding on a Razor. Those would be a helmet, and knee and elbow pads. Wearing lace up shoes with rubber soles is advised. It is also recommended not to wear sandals or to go barefoot.

Before you get on be sure to check your Razor. Make sure the handlebars are secure, tighten all bolts, and modify the steering tube to the right height. Also make certain the handle bars, steel tube and steel tube extension are all locked into position.

Also check the wheels for any wear and tear. If this is your first time using a Razor refer to the owner?s manual. It is wise to avoid water, sand, gravel, in-line skaters, and speed bumps. A small bump can make the front wheel jam which is a big cause of accidents.

If you happen to be one of the lucky owners of a Razor you will find a great deal of pleasure with them. Safety has to be a big concern. Take care and happy riding!

If this piece has whetted your appetite for a Razor Pocket Bike or one of the others in the range|, just go over to our web site now for more information and bargains at Razor A Scooter

Swimwear Through Through The last 100 years

Whilst you are putting your bathing suit on and heading for the water, the grass or the sand, have you ever given a thought to those generations who came before you? While you are sitting there in your swimming trunks or bikini, spare a thought for those who have worn a swimsuit before you through the ages. The history of the swimsuit and the history of women’s swimwear in particular is fascinating

We are so lucky nowadays in the West to be free of the fetters of the disapproval of society regarding beachwear and swimming costumes, because it still goes on in the Muslim and Asian world. They see our simple approach to near nudity as disgraceful, but so did our fore-fathers and especially our fore-mothers.

But there was a bizarre duality in their opinion. I have seen photos of female bathers in the latest fashion designs taken around about 1900 where nipples are plainly visible, but the legs were covered in stockings. These are clearly family photos and not pornography, which was rife then too.

The history of bathing suits through the ages (in the West) for both men and women has seen a reduction in the amount of clothing society required to see for a person to stay decent. This varied from country to country and from religion to religion, but with the exception of the Islamic faith, the tendency has been the same – towards less.

The less the better.

For instance, in 1905 a lady’s bathing costume was really a short dress made up of ten yards of material, but by 1945 that yardage had shrunk to one yard. These days some women’s swimwear is manufactured from a couple of square feet.

The same is a fact of men’s swimwear fashion. A hundred years ago, the predominant swimwear fashion for men dictated that they wore leotards in the water, whereas fashionable swimwear in the late 1930’s was trunks.

In the Seventies, they wore scanty speedos and now we are back to trunks, although some beaches permit men to wear thongs like ladies do. Such are the vagaries of contemporary beachwear and swimwear style as dictated by politics and fashion.

In 1917, women wore a knitted jersey a skirt, bloomers, black stockings and even shoes on the water’s edge. Men did not have to wear stockings or shoes, but their leotard usually came down to their knees.

The following years saw hemlines on women and men rising, but bathing costumes were still down-beat, unsexy dark colours. The emphasis was not to look sexy, although many photos taken at that time show that both sexes were going through a sexual revolution. They had never seen so much of each other outside the bedroom.

This was the time when lots of our grand parents were born so it is the history of their parents’ sexual liberation. In the West, we can hardly start to imagine what it must have been like in those times ‘when a glimpse of stocking was something shocking’ and men ‘would rather hang around Piccadilly Underground, looking at the ankles of the fine-born ladies’.

Nowadays, you can find beaches all around Europe where (semi) nudity is permissible, and increasingly so in America and Asia. The only bastions of modesty are the Muslim countries of northern Africa and Eastern Asia, but after recent events such as the Arab Awakening, how long is that likely to last?

Dog Friendly Rentals

The majority of people really love their pets, to the point where they become part of the family. Some pet owners cannot bear to be parted from their pets for more than a day or so and for these people, going on holiday can be a problem, because they do not want to leave their friends behind. Clearly the answer is to take your cat or dog with you. Dogs are easier to take away than cats, because they are more well-trained

If you are only going for a couple of days, say on business, finding a hotel near to the place of your meeting should not be too much of a problem, unless you want to stay at one of the big names in the city centre. It is usually the smaller, family-run hotels or guest houses that consent to pets, although some want you to keep your dog in a kennel on the premises overnight. larger hotels are inclined not to be very pet-friendly.

If you propose taking your pet with you, it is best if you make this apparent when you make your booking as more hotels do not permit pets than do allow them. Normally there is no extra charge for a pet, but you are responsible for any extra cleaning bills, should your pet have an accident.

If you are going away on vacation or for a longer period of time, it is sometimes far easier to find a holiday rental that will allow you to take your cat or dog with you. Again, it is best to make it obvious at booking that you want to take your dog with you. Fortunately, there are about fifty percent of rentals or more that will allow this, although once again, you will be held liable for any damage or mess made by your dog.

A tip: if on getting there, you see that previous pets have caused some damage or stains, take photographs on your first day and have them dated. Modern cameras often have the facility to date stamp photos or you can use a newspaper. Otherwise, point out the damage to your host.

When you travel with your dog, it is best to put the animal in some sort of a kennel especially when driving. A loving dog can be a distraction in a car. If it wants attention just when you are trying to complete a complicated manouevre, it can result in an accident. Some dogs get very frightened in cars and want to sit on their owner’s lap, this is also not a good idea and could lead to a charge of dangerous driving. Furthermore, if your dog is not caged and you have an accident, it could be thrown through the windscreen. If you are travelling by air, then the airline will insist on a cage, but they usually have their own.

Once you arrive at your pet-friendly rental, give your dog some of his regular food to eat, spread out his blanket from home, and put out one of his favourite toys, just to help make him feel at home. After all, everything will be strange to him and he might be able to smell the previous furry tenant. If cleaning staff will be going into your rental during your holiday, make sure that you are there at least for the first few times they visit.

Superb Inland Beach Cottage Rentals

When many people, singles and families alike, think about booking a holiday, many of them would only think about going to the beach for a fortnight’s lounging on the beach under the sun and swimming in warm, azure waters.

However, many of the best, most famous beach locations are magnets for crowds of people. It appears that most people like the sand, the sea and the sun. Now some people go to these destinations specifically because they are busy. They like the crowds and the night clubs that appeal to them. Mainly singles go to these kinds of places and a holiday affair is not far from many peoples’ minds.

Couples and older people may desire a little less noise, pollution and commotion. However, there are beaches which meet these requirements too. Often they are private beaches. Some have hotels on them but some do not. Those that do not often have inland beach cottage rental properties instead. These are nearly always self-catering.

When most people think of a beach it is automatically connected with the sea. However, this need not inevitably be so. There are also inland beaches on lakes and rivers. These beaches are usually referred to as inland beaches. Accommodation can be a problem with even some of the best inland beaches.

Many of these inland beaches are just not well-known enough to make a hotel commercially viable, but some of them have cottage rentals as an alternative. These cottages, or cabins sometimes, can be hard to find if you do not reserve early enough. They are frequently complete homes, fully equipped with all the household amenities you have grown used to: a fully furnished living room, multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and a modern kitchen.

Inland beach cottage rentals are popular because they are often located exactly on the water’s edge. This makes the bit of beach right in front of your cottage your private beach. You can sleep on it at night if it’s hot, lie there all day or set up a few fishing lines.

In the evenings, you can hitch up with neighbours to have a party or keep yourself to yourself. For this reason, it is a good idea to check photos of the cottage before you make a booking.

If an inland beach cottage rental sounds right for you, there are thousands to pick from in the United States and Canada. The Great Lakes are a particularly beautiful place to go. There are excellent spots in the Finger Lakes region of New York state and along Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

You will not be disappointed about going on holiday to an inland beach cottage rental property. There are so many variations that there is certainly something for every wallet and every family size. Singles are not so well catered for, but if you want a quiet holiday alone. maybe to study, then this might fitting be for you too.

You can fly into some of these resorts by seaplane, but it is more likely that you will take your own car or a rental car, if you want to get out and do some exploring further afield. Personally, I would rather hire a dinghy.

Celebrity Cruises

Are you planning a pretty special vacation? Say to celebrate a extraordinary event like retirement or an anniversary? If you are, then you really should add a cruise to your shortlist of holidays to research more.

A cruise is a very extraordinary type of vacation, because you get to visit a number of locations and even a number of different countries over the length of your holiday.

It is a very relaxing sort of vacation because you have nothing to do except enjoy yourself between destinations. You do not even have to pack and unpack between destinations because your hotel takes you to your port of call not a bus or a car. Usually, the cruise liner has already docked when you wake up for breakfast.

After breakfast, you can opt to go ashore or not, as you like. Usually, the ship will have a few tours you can choose from or you can go it on your own. You are told what time to be back on board, say 19:00 hours and whilst you go down to dinner, the liner will weigh anchor and head for the next port of call.

This routine will be repeated every day, but at another port, although you do get a ‘day at sea’ on some cruises. This is not a bad thing as it allows you to spend all day relaxing and enjoying the motion of the ocean. Most cruise ships have lots to do during these days at sea.

Nearly all liners will have a cinema and special interest classes or lessons, some of which are led by guest celebrities. For example, you might be interested in learning about wine. Well, there is usually a wine appreciation class on board or you might want to learn some of the history of the next port of call, especially if it has connections to an ancient civilization.

Food figures large on cruises. On my last cruise, we had: breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, high tea, dinner and a midnight feast. Breakfast, luncheon and dinner were equivalent to five course meals, but actually you could just consume as much as you wanted. In between the meals, there was room (or cabin) service.

Food was included in the price of our cruise, but you had to buy alcoholic drinks, although they are free too on all inclusive cruises. Luckily, cruise liners also have gyms, swimming pools and deck sports to help you strive to keep the pounds off. I was disastrous at that and I gained two pounds for each week of the voyage, which I am told is about average.

After dinner, there is usually a cabaret, a piano bar and a night club going on somewhere and if you can remain awake, you can normally visit all three dos to find out which one suits you the best that evening. For me it was cabaret, night club and last drink in the piano bar before going to my cabin.

The sheet was always turned down with a sheaf of papers on my pillow explaining about the next port and the excursions available, which could be booked any time of the day or night by using the cabin phone. I would go again tomorrow.

Scuba Diving, Snorkeling And Swimming On Holiday

Numerous people who enjoy scuba diving and snorkeling decide on their vacation destinations with their leisure pursuit in mind. Some of the top vacation destinations for scuba diving and snorkeling are the Caribbean, Mexico, the Mediterranean and Thailand. Most people like to go to observe the aquatic wildlife, which means that the water has to be relatively clean.

Most divers like to look for marine animals and scenery, whilst others like to look for wrecks. As it happens fish and plants like to inhabit wrecks as well because they provide protection from predators.

So diving wrecks offers excitement and the opportunity to observe wildlife. However, there is the added anticipation of treasure hunting.

If you like the concept of diving wrecks and looking for artefacts and treasure, you have to know that wrecks are perilous, because you can get caught on railings, trapped in rooms or even get your oxygen line cut by some sharp edge, causing you to surface too quickly, which could give you the bends.

Not only that, but it is often illegal to go treasure hunting on wrecks that are not in international water (that is, more than fifteen miles off shore) and that usually means deep water where there is little opportunity of you being rescued if you become a cropper. Diving wrecks without a guide is a very perilous venture indeed.

However, most countries where scuba diving and snorkeling are well-liked vacation pastimes also have diving clubs, schools and instructors on the beaches or associated with the better hotels.

For example, in Thailand, there are literally hundreds of diving schools for tourists in Pattaya, Phuket, Hua Hin, Ko Samui and Pi-Pi. You can either approach one of these schools yourself or ask your hotel to recommend one.

Most of the diving clubs in these popular seaside resorts in Thailand are run from bars by ex-pats, but this does not mean that they are not completely professional. Individuals like to dive in the warm sea in the morning and early afternoon and then retire to the bar to eat something and plan the next day’s journey. Most of these bar-diving clubs either have their own boats or go halves with a boat with friends.

Membership is normally free or it may be a nominal amount in order to comply with local regulations, but it is unlikely to be over $10 for a fortnight. If you do not have your diving gear with you, you can normally rent it or if you have never been diving before, you can earn your fundamental diver’s certificate during your vacation.

Numerous divers use the diving trail to see southern Thailand. The destinations that I mentioned above are not very far apart. You could drive it in a hire car, travel in a bus during the night from one to the other or fly from one resort to the next in 30-40 minutes. Car hire, VIP bus travel and internal flights are fairly cheap in Thailand.

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania – The Battleground

If you are at all interested in either Pennsylvania or American history, you will certainly have heard of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and the historic activities that took place there during the American Civil War. The three day long battle that took place there in July 1863 was cruel and bloody, but was hailed as a victory for the Unionist North.

Even so, one quick look in the Union Army burial ground in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on Cemetery Hill will persuade you that the victory came at a very high cost. The cost in human life and human suffering was gigantic on both sides. Later on in the same year, Abraham Lincoln gave a discourse which was to become famous throughout the world as the Gettysburg Address.

These days, the Gettysburg National Military Park is a tranquil place, but it serves as a moving reminder of the battle that was fought, the strategies employed, the heroism of the combatants and the willingness of military leaders to sacrifice the common soldier for political objectives.

If you go to the Gettysburg National Military Park, you would do well to begin your tour in the visitors’ centre. There you will be able to pick up books, pamphlets and leaflets to help you orient yourself when you are on the battleground, even if you are familiar with how and where the genuine battle was fought.

If you think that it would be too much for you to work things out for yourself or if you do not have much time, you could join one of the regular guided tours. If you are somewhere in between these two positions, you could first watch a film in the Cycloarma Center, where there are also historical items recovered from the battleground on the numerous excavations that have taken place over the nearly 150 years since the battle at Gettysburg took place. If you do not look around the museum before you go on to the battleground, you ought to look later.

If you are going to Gettysburg to enlighten your children about that most important era of American history, you should first check out the special interest programmes available to 7-12 year olds in the warmer summer months. One programme allows children to enlist in the army of 1863 for an hour in order to get a sense for what it was like for soldiers of the day and what it was like for the children that helped them go into battle.

Another programme consists of a story-teller telling stories of what it was like to be a youngster in the days of the Civil War and the role that kids played both in the war and in civilian life back then.

Gettysburg is a spellbinding place to go to whether your family was embroiled in the battle there or not. Many of the combatants’ names and place names like Devil’s Den and Cemetery Hill will already be familiar to you and a visit to the Gettysburg National Military Park will bring them back to life for you.

What You Need to Know What in the Market for Luggage

What is the most excellent luggage to buy? There is more than one way to answer this question. While it’s a good idea to get the best quality luggage you can afford, the specific type, style and size depends on what you need it for. It’s a wise idea to consider what form of luggage you require long before your trip, because you don’t want to have to stress about it at the last minute. The following suggestions for making a decision on the proper luggage should assist you in locating travel bags that will meet your needs.

Having only a carry-on bag makes flying so much easier than having to check a bag. This is of course only possible if you are only traveling for a short time. We all have a tendency to take along more baggage than we need. For most short trips it is possible to take only a small carry on if you plan carefully what you will take.

It is possible to find baggage that can be carry on size in everything from soft sided to hard shelled. Carry-on requirements will vary some by airline with the exception of stowage and weight limits. Another versatile luggage type are duffel bags. Duffel bags were once mainly associated with the military, as they are a convenient way to stuff lots of items into a compact bag. Despite this, the duffel bags available today can be quite stylish and come in many varieties. Wheels are a new handy feature on many duffel bags, that traditionally included only handles or straps. If you need to make the best use of the space you have, the duffel bag is the choice for you.

A warranty that covers your luggage for its lifetime is what the best luggage comes with. This will guarantee that whenever anything goes wrong you can return it for repairs. A company that offers this kind of warranty obviously has confidence in their product, which means you are less likely to have any problems. Since you can travel with fewer worries, the money you will pay up front will be worth it in the long run.

Considering how long you will be traveling, how much you intend to bring and what your budget is are all important factors in choosing the right luggage. Construction is the most important factor in your new luggage, cost is unimportant. You can relax now that you have some great guidelines for locating a good travel bag.

How Much Can A Truck Driver Earn?

Are you looking around for a new job? Or have you ever wondered how much a truck operator earns? If the adverts in the truckers’ magazines are to be believed, it is easy to get a driving job paying $100,000 a year as an owner driver.

This may be true, but it is definite that you can make a good living by owning and operating your own truck. There are several valid reasons for this. There is a deteriorating shortage of people who are prepared to drive long distances and stay away from home for a night or more and yet more goods are being imported and so have to be distributed from docks to distribution depots.

Many owner operators enjoy the lifestyle of being their own boss and not having anyone breathing down their neck. Owner drivers often take their spouse or their dog on trips with them and a modern cab is more like a small caravan that a car.

There are three main types of driving job available in the truck driving industry:

The first is the owner driver or owner operator. This type of driver owns his or her own tractor – the cab part that pulls the trailer. This driver is usually contracted to a haulage firm and is paid per mile and is at least partially responsible for fuel and repair bills. It is normally the highest paying trucking option.

The second is the company driver. A company operator does not own his or her own truck and will usually get a wage based on hours or miles. A company driver typically does not have the same level of control over his wages that an owner driver has.

The third sort is the independent trucker. The independent trucker is fundamentally a mini haulage company. He or she has to find the loads, deliver them, make sure he gets paid, repair the wagon and everything else that a boss has to do, but without the corporate support and regular loads that an owner operator has from his haulage company.

If you are interested in this kind of business, the first thing you will need is a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) in the USA or Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) License in the UK.

Most truck operators attend a truck driving school where they will be given intensive training on how to drive a semi, as the tractor-cum-cab is called. Training will be given on driving and the written part of the state examination. After graduating from the driving school, you will be able to apply for your CDL or HGV.

Alternatively, you may be able to get in with a large haulage firm that runs its own in-house training school. This is better still as it may ensure you a job with that company for a while and that will help you found a financial history should you want finance to buy your own truck later.

Once you are legal, you can rely on your training school to help you find a job, you could phone around, look on the Internet or go and get one of those truckers’ magazines where they advertise jobs at $100,000 a year.

Owen Jones, the author of this article writes on lots of topics, but is currently concerned with truck sat nav systems. If you would like to know more, please go to our website at Laser Temperature Gun.
